Why do I receive so many negative votes when I call Dark Souls III a decent game?

I posted my opinion about Dark Souls III being just okay, nothing special. I said it was a decent game but not amazing like everyone claims. Within hours my comment got bombarded with downvotes from other users. I don’t understand why people get so upset when someone has a moderate opinion about this game. It seems like you either have to love it completely or you get attacked by the fanbase. Has anyone else experienced this kind of reaction when sharing lukewarm thoughts about popular games? I’m genuinely confused about why saying a game is alright instead of perfect causes such strong negative responses from the gaming community.

Some communities just can’t handle middle ground opinions about their favorite games. Saying something is decent should be fine but certain fanbases treat it like you said it was trash.

Yeah the Souls community can be pretty intense about their games. I think part of it is that those games are really hard so when people finally beat them, they feel super attached to the experience.

People take those games way too personally. Calling it decent is still a compliment but fans act like you insulted their family.

Dark Souls fans are weird about their games honestly. I think it’s because the whole ‘git gud’ culture makes people feel like they’re part of some exclusive club. So when you say it’s just decent, they hear it as you dismissing their achievement or something. Same thing happens with other cult games too. You’re not wrong for having a lukewarm take.

Dark Souls has a really passionate fanbase. When players invest so much time into a game, hearing it called only “decent” can feel like a personal attack, even if that’s not the intention. The community tends to be defensive about any criticism. It’s totally fine to feel like the series is overrated, even if not everyone wants to say it out loud.
