Does anyone else notice how much characters repeat themselves in this game?
Take Jinhsi for example. She constantly mentions how everything she does is for Jinzhou’s citizens or how she would give up her life to protect them. I get it, she cares about her people, but hearing the same motivation explained every single scene gets old fast.
Then there’s Shorekeeper who must have told Rover about staying loyal at least five times during her quest line. We understand the dedication already. The repetitive nature of these conversations makes me wonder if the writing team thinks players forget plot points that quickly.
Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy playing and the story improved a lot after Mt Firmament. But the constant repetition of character motivations feels unnecessary and breaks immersion for me.
I think it’s also a localization thing sometimes. What sounds natural in the original language might come across as repetitive when translated, especially if they’re trying to keep certain key phrases consistent throughout the game.
Repetition is definitely a drag, especially when you start tuning it out. Once you know a character’s motivation, hearing it over and over just feels lazy. It’s like they don’t trust us to remember what’s important. A bit of variety in dialogue would really help keep things fresh.
Totally get that. It happens a lot in RPGs, probably because they want to keep things clear for anyone who might be coming back after a break or just missing key details. It can be a bit tiresome though.
Yeah this drives me nuts too. I think developers do it because they’re worried about players jumping in mid-story or skipping cutscenes, so they hammer the same points over and over. But it ends up making characters feel like broken records instead of actual people. Good writing should trust players to remember important stuff without beating us over the head with it.
