I’ve noticed a recurring situation where fans of Dark Souls 2 tend to generate strange justifications whenever someone expresses dislike for the game. Instead of acknowledging that the game might have genuine issues, they often claim that critics simply don’t grasp its complexities or haven’t played it properly.
For instance, if you bring up the strange hit detection or the rushed design of certain areas, their typical response is to suggest you’re just not skilled enough or that you’re unfairly comparing it to the first game. It’s becoming quite frustrating. Why can’t they simply recognize that this game isn’t perfect like many others out there?
Has anyone else observed this tendency among DS2 fans? It seems they take any form of critique as a direct insult.
Dark Souls 2 catches way more hate than it deserves so the fans probably feel like they need to fight back. I mean the game isn’t terrible, it just feels different from the first one. Can’t blame people for getting protective of something they enjoy.
Every game has its die-hard fans who get defensive when you criticize it. DS2 has its quirks for sure, but honestly, so do all the Souls games. People just get attached and it hits them hard when you mention flaws.
I think it’s because DS2 gets picked on way more than the other games in the series. Like yeah it has problems but people act like it’s completely broken when it’s really not. When you’re constantly defending something you love, you probably get a bit too defensive about it. The hit detection thing is overblown anyway, most of the time when people complain about it they’re just mistiming their rolls.
Look, DS2 definitely has its problems but it also gets dumped on constantly while other games with similar issues get a pass. When you’re used to seeing the same complaints over and over, especially the hitbox stuff that gets way overblown, you’re gonna push back.
Plus a lot of the criticism comes from people who clearly wanted it to be DS1 again instead of its own thing. Not saying the game is flawless but the hate circle gets old fast.
