Which type of indie horror game is missing from the current market?

Hey everyone! I’m thinking about developing a horror game and I’m curious about what you all think is missing from the current indie horror scene. If you could wave a magic wand and make your dream horror game appear, what would it be like? What elements or themes do you feel aren’t being explored enough? I’m really interested in hearing your ideas and what kind of experiences you’re craving in the horror genre. Maybe there’s a specific setting or gameplay mechanic you’d love to see? Or perhaps a unique twist on classic horror tropes? Let me know your thoughts!

A co-op horror game where players have different abilities could be cool. One sees ghosts, another hears them. Gotta work together to survive.

I think we need more horror games set in everyday places. Like an office building or a mall after hours. Could be really creepy to take familiar spots and make them terrifying. Plus it’d hit close to home for a lot of people.

I’d love to see more psychological horror games that mess with your mind. Something that blurs the line between reality and delusion, where you can’t trust what you see. Not many games nail that unsettling feeling.

I’d love to see a horror game that really leans into sound design. Like, imagine exploring a pitch-black environment where all you have is your hearing. Could be set in a cave system or something. The tension of trying to navigate and survive just by listening would be intense. Plus, it’d be a fresh take on the usual visual scares.

A horror game based on folklore from lesser-known cultures could be rad. Imagine exploring creepy legends and monsters most people have never heard of.
