Dead Space is my go-to. The creepy atmosphere on that spaceship is unreal. Necromorphs are terrifying and the zero-gravity sections add a whole new level of tension. Plus, strategic dismemberment is such a cool gameplay mechanic.
Alien: Isolation for sure. That AI xenomorph is relentless.
The constant tension of hiding and never feeling safe really nails the survival horror vibe.
Gotta be Resident Evil 4 for me. The mix of action and horror is just perfect. The atmosphere in that Spanish village is creepy as hell, and the Las Plagas enemies are way more unsettling than regular zombies. Plus, the inventory management and weapon upgrades add a nice survival element. It’s aged really well too, still holds up after all these years.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is my top pick. The sanity mechanic adds a whole new layer to the horror. Hiding from monsters instead of fighting them makes it way more intense. The puzzles are pretty cool too.
Silent Hill 2 takes the cake for me. The psychological horror and twisted story really mess with your head. The foggy town and monster designs are super unsettling. It’s not just about jump scares, but a constant feeling of dread.
