Many horror games lose their edge once you get a weapon. But I’m curious about those that stay creepy even when you’re packing heat. Can you think of any that keep you on edge despite having a gun or other means of defense?
I’ve played a few, but there’s one that really stands out. No matter how well-equipped I am, it always leaves me feeling uneasy. The atmosphere is just so intense.
What about you guys? Any horror games you’ve played where having a weapon doesn’t make you feel safe? I’d love to hear your experiences and maybe find some new titles to try out!
Dead Space is a good shout. Those necromorphs are relentless. I’d add Alien: Isolation to the list too. Even with weapons, that xenomorph is terrifying. The motion tracker just cranks up the tension every time it beeps.
Amnesia: Rebirth definitely keeps the scares coming. Even when you find items to defend yourself, the Lovecraftian horrors and mind-bending environments keep you constantly on edge. The dark caves and alien landscapes never let you feel truly safe.
SOMA comes to mind. Weapons don’t help much against existential dread and underwater horrors. The game’s atmosphere is seriously unsettling, no matter what you’re carrying.
Gotta say, Resident Evil 7 nails this. Even with weapons, those Baker creeps still freak me out. The tight corridors and limited ammo keep you on edge.
Dead Space is another good one. Yeah, you’ve got a plasma cutter, but those necromorphs just keep coming. The zero-g sections especially get my heart racing.
What about you? Any games that still scare you even when you’re armed to the teeth?
