I’ve been thinking about how some monsters could be improved in the game. For a major change, I’d redesign the Forest Keeper to be drawn to baboon hawks and metal scraps that it would investigate and consume. It should also go dormant when no players or creatures are detected nearby for a while. Plus they really shouldn’t spawn on snowy moons because that makes no sense.
For the Maneater, a small tweak would be making it grow bigger after consuming scrap items. This could extend how long it stays in its aggressive hunting mode.
What monsters would you guys modify and how would you do it? I’m curious about other ideas for making the gameplay more interesting.
Bracken’s broken and needs fixing. The big issue? It should actually stalk you instead of randomly teleporting behind players. Quick fix would be toning down the instakill - right now it murders you if you glance at it for even half a second.
Coil Heads are broken right now - way too exploitable. Big fix: make them keep moving even when you’re watching, just slower. You shouldn’t be able to freeze a monster forever by staring at it. Quick fix: add a quiet mechanical whirring when they move so you know one’s active nearby.
Nutcrackers are annoying in the worst way. They need a complete rework - have them patrol routes instead of camping doorways like assholes. They should hunt players who make noise, not just stand there waiting. At minimum, add a wind-up sound before they shoot so you get a chance to dodge instead of getting instantly demolished.
Thumpers get predictable fast once you figure out their pattern. Biggest change? Let them climb stairs and move between floors instead of being stuck on one level. Smaller fix - make their stomping echo differently depending on the facility layout so you can’t always tell exactly where they are.
