I’ve been thinking about diving into the Dark Souls series and I’m curious about what the community thinks. There are three main games in the series plus some related titles like Demon’s Souls and the spiritual successors. Each one seems to have its own strengths and weaknesses from what I’ve read online.
I’m wondering which entry you think stands out as the strongest overall. What made that particular game special for you? Was it the level design, the boss fights, the story, or maybe just the overall atmosphere? I’d love to hear your thoughts on what makes one Dark Souls game better than the others. Any insights would be really helpful as I decide where to start my journey into this challenging series.
Dark Souls 3 for me, though I know that’s probably not the popular pick. It just feels the most polished and refined. The combat is snappier than the first two games and the bosses are absolutely incredible. Sister Friede, Gael, Midir - some of the best fights in gaming. Yeah it’s more linear but honestly after getting lost constantly in DS1 I appreciated having clearer direction.
Dark Souls 1 really stands out for me. The way the world is all connected just blew my mind. Unlocking shortcuts and seeing how everything links up made it feel special. No other game in the series quite captures that feeling.
Started with DS3 myself but went back to play the original and now I’m torn. The first one has that amazing world design but DS3 just feels so much smoother to actually play.
Honestly depends what you’re looking for. If you want that classic interconnected world experience, DS1 is unbeatable. But if you care more about smooth gameplay and don’t mind things being more straightforward, DS3 is probably your best bet as a newcomer. DS2 is weird but has some cool ideas if you end up loving the series.
