When you're enjoying a scary game and think you're safe but the creaky floor has other plans

I was just playing this incredible horror game last night and was really into it. Everything felt peaceful, and I thought I had found a safe place to take a breather. You know how it is in horror games—you start to feel at ease when nothing frightening occurs for a bit.

But then I accidentally stepped on some loose floorboards. The creaking noise was so loud! It instantly triggered the monster to chase me. It’s like the developers understand how to play with players who feel clever.

Has anyone else experienced these jump scares in horror games? The ones where you believe you’ve done everything right, but some random environment element gives you away? I feel like these games are made to keep you anxious about every little noise you make.

Same here with Amnesia games. I’m creeping around all careful and then BAM - knock over a chair and everything goes to shit.

Those noise traps are so annoying! Always catch you off guard when you think you’re in the clear.

Dead Space nails this. All that metal grating makes every step sound like you’re announcing yourself to the necromorphs.

Outlast constantly had me on edge. You’re trying to hide in a locker thinking you’re safe, and then your character starts breathin like he just ran a marathon. Or you end up bumping something when you’re crouched down, making noise. The worst part is knowing you messed up and just having to wait to see if something heard you.

The creaky floor betrayal is real. Nothing worse than thinking you found the perfect hiding spot only to have your own footsteps sell you out.
