What's your top list of independent horror games?

Hey everyone! I’m a big fan of indie horror games and I’ve played quite a few over the years. I thought it would be fun to share my personal ranking and see what you all think. Here’s my top 5:

  1. Amnesia: The Dark Descent
  2. Outlast
  3. SOMA
  4. Layers of Fear
  5. Penumbra: Black Plague

What do you guys think? Do you agree with my choices? Are there any hidden gems I’m missing out on? I’d love to hear about your favorite indie horror games and why you think they’re great. Maybe we can all discover some new scary games to play!

Phasmophobia is awesome with friends. The way your heart races when the ghost starts hunting… so good. Little Nightmares is another cool indie horror. Not super scary, but the atmosphere is on point.

SOMA is a great pick. The underwater setting really adds to the creep factor. I’d throw Darkwood into the mix too. That top-down view somehow makes it even scarier. Always on edge in that game.

Solid list, but I gotta mention Visage. That game messed me up for days. The way it plays with your perception and sanity is next level.

Also, Cry of Fear is an oldie but goodie. It’s free on Steam and packs some serious scares. The atmosphere is thick enough to cut with a knife.

Anyone else play these? They’re definitely worth checking out if you’re into indie horror.

Phasmophobia deserves a spot. Hunting ghosts with friends is surprisingly terrifying. The tension when your flashlight starts flickering… gets me every time.

Darkwood is intense! Love how it builds dread without relying on jump scares. For something different, try Doki Doki Literature Club. Looks cute, but man, it’s messed up.
