Silent Hill 2 is still the king of psychological horror for me.
The fog, the monsters, the story… it gets in your head and stays there.
Not just jump scares, but a creeping dread that builds throughout.
Alien: Isolation really got to me. The xeno’s AI is terrifying. You never know when it’ll pop out, and hiding from it is intense. The atmosphere and sound design are top-notch too. Definitely lost some sleep over that one.
Outlast really messed me up. The setting of an abandoned asylum is creepy enough, but not being able to fight back and having to rely on night vision to see in the dark? Absolute nightmare fuel. I remember hiding in lockers, heart racing, praying the enemies wouldn’t find me. That game had me on edge the entire time and I still get chills thinking about it.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent still gives me chills. The sanity mechanic where your character goes crazy in the dark is genius. Spent half the game hiding from monsters and the other half desperately searching for light sources. Good times!
