What's the reason behind Dark Urge being dragonborn? Full game spoilers included

I’ve been pondering why Bhaal chose to make the Dark Urge a dragonborn. It seems like an odd choice.

From what I’ve gathered, dragonborn can only reproduce with their own kind, and often from the same subtype. This poses a big issue for Bhaal’s initial plans. Before the situation with the netherbrain arose, Bhaal likely intended for the Dark Urge to behave like other bhaalspawn, engaging in murder and producing more bhaalspawn.

Throughout the game, both Sarevok and the butler hint at these expectations in various dialogues. Given the limitations of dragonborn reproduction, how would that have worked out?

Additionally, dragonborn have shorter lifespans compared to other races, which seems to go against Bhaal’s objective of creating chaos and more bhaalspawn.

Wouldn’t it have been more practical for the Dark Urge to be an elf or a drow, who have longer lifespans and fewer reproduction constraints? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this decision.

Maybe it’s just because dragonborn look more intimidating? Like having a scaly murder child would be way more terrifying than just another elf with daddy issues.

Could be meta reasoning too - dragonborn are popular player choices so making the default Dark Urge one probably appeals to more players.

I always figured it was more about the dragon blood connection. Dragons are already tied to ancient power and destruction, so having that lineage mixed with Bhaal’s essence probably made the Dark Urge way stronger than a regular bhaalspawn would be.

I think you’re overthinking the practical stuff. Bhaal’s whole thing is being chaotic and destructive, so maybe he just picked dragonborn because they’re naturally violent and have that draconic rage thing going on. Plus the Dark Urge was supposed to be his masterpiece, not just another baby-making bhaalspawn. The whole reproduction angle might not have even mattered since the plan was world domination through the absolute anyway.
