What's in the typical 'Horror games don't scare me' kit?

So I’ve been thinking about those people who always claim horror games aren’t scary. You know the type, right? I’m curious what you guys think would be in their starter pack. Maybe stuff like:

  • A bright room with all the lights on
  • Watching gameplay videos before playing
  • Playing with the sound off or music on
  • Skipping cutscenes and dialogue
  • Using cheat codes or god mode

What else do you think belongs in the ‘I’m not scared of horror games’ starter pack? Share your ideas! I bet we can come up with a pretty funny list.

Gotta add a pillow fort to that list. Nothing says ‘I’m totally not scared’ like building a fortress of fluffy protection around your gaming setup. Plus, it doubles as a great place to hide when things get too intense!

Constant snacking is a big one. Nothing says ‘I’m totally not scared’ like stuffing your face with chips and constantly reaching for your drink. Keeps your hands busy and gives you something to focus on besides the game.

Also, speedrunning. If you’re blazing through the game as fast as possible, you’re clearly not scared at all, right?

Playing with the volume on mute. Because who needs those creepy sound effects anyway? Just imagine your own spooky soundtrack with kazoos and slide whistles.

Playing with friends is a big one for me. It’s way less scary when you can laugh about stuff together. Also, taking breaks every few minutes helps keep the tension down. I’ve done both and it makes horror games way more manageable.

Playing with a wiki open is a classic move.

Nothing says ‘I’m not scared’ like knowing exactly what’s coming next and how to beat it.

Bonus points if you’re constantly pausing to look stuff up.
