Hey horror game fans! I’ve been on a spooky indie game binge lately. I’ve played through all the popular ones from the big names like Amica Games, Chilla’s Art, and Dolphin’s Games. Now I’m looking to branch out and find some hidden gems.
Does anyone have recommendations for indie horror games from lesser-known developers that really blew you away? I’m talking about those games that kept you up at night, made you jump out of your seat, or just left you feeling unsettled long after you finished playing.
I’m open to all types of horror - psychological, survival, jump-scare fests, whatever you’ve got! Bonus points if it’s got a unique art style or gameplay mechanic. Let me know your top picks and why they stood out to you. Can’t wait to dive into some new terrifying experiences!
Darkwood’s a hidden gem. Top-down view but super creepy atmosphere. Survival horror with a twist. No hand-holding, just you vs the forest. Gets pretty intense at night.
Dunno if you’ve tried it, but ‘Paratopic’ really stuck with me. It’s this weird, surreal horror game with PS1-style graphics. Not your typical jump scare stuff, more like a creepy fever dream that gets under your skin. The sound design is killer too. Only takes about an hour to play through, but it’ll leave you thinking about it for days after.
Faith by Airdorf Games is pretty wild. Old-school graphics but super creepy vibe. Lots of unexpected scares and a really unsettling atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into retro-style horror.
Ooh, Lost in Vivo is a trip. It’s like a messed up version of Silent Hill with PS1 graphics. The claustrophobic sewer levels are intense, and the sound design is on point. Definitely left me feeling uneasy for a while after playing.
World of Horror is pretty sick if you’re into old-school RPGs. It’s got this Junji Ito vibe with 1-bit graphics. Really nails that cosmic horror feel. The randomized stories keep it fresh too.
