What are some lesser-known indie horror games with great atmosphere from recent years?

Hey everyone, I’m looking to dive into some new horror experiences. I’m kinda tired of all the big-name sequels and remakes out there. What I really want is to find some indie gems that create an amazing dark atmosphere.

I’m hoping you guys can suggest some games that aren’t super well-known. You know, the kind of stuff that doesn’t get a ton of attention but is still really good. I’m open to all kinds of horror, as long as it’s got that creepy vibe that really pulls you in.

Has anyone played something recently that fits the bill? Maybe a game that surprised you or gave you some good scares? I’d love to hear about your experiences and why you’d recommend these games.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Visage is seriously creepy. Plays like P.T. but longer.

The atmosphere builds slowly and gets under your skin.

Definitely worth a look if you want something unsettling.

Recently played Mundaun. It’s got this creepy hand-drawn art style and a really unique Alpine setting. Definitely nails the eerie atmosphere without relying on jump scares.

I’ve been playing Martha Is Dead lately. It’s a psychological horror set in 1944 Italy. The atmosphere is super intense and unsettling.

The game uses photography as a key mechanic, which adds to the creepy vibe. It’s not for everyone though. Some parts are pretty disturbing and graphic.

If you want something that really gets in your head, give it a shot.

Darkwood is pretty underrated. Top-down view but super atmospheric. The night cycle is intense and the sound design really gets under your skin. Not your typical horror game but it’s genuinely unsettling.

Layers of Fear is worth checking out. It’s not super new but it’s got a really trippy vibe. The whole game messes with your head as you explore this crazy shifting mansion. Pretty wild stuff.
