Hey folks! I’m trying to set up Chain Together for local multiplayer using two separate wireless controllers. I managed to get the game running, but I’m running into a weird issue. One player controls perfectly with their external controller, but the second player seems to only respond to inputs from the built-in Steam Deck controls instead of the second wireless controller I paired. Has anyone else encountered this controller mapping problem? Both controllers show up as connected in the system, but only one is actually working in-game for multiplayer. Any suggestions on how to fix the input assignment would be really helpful!
I get that struggle. Sometimes the Steam Deck defaults to its own controls for player one, even if you have other controllers connected. Go into Big Picture mode and check the controller settings to make sure everything is ordered right. You might need to disable the internal controls temporarily or reassign which controller is player one.
I totally get where you’re coming from. The Steam Deck can be picky with controllers. When I had this problem, I just turned off my wireless controllers and launched the game using only the Deck’s controls. Once I was in the menu, I switched on the wireless controllers again. After that, they worked fine as player one and two, without the Deck’s controls interfering.
Try setting each controller to a separate player slot in Steam’s controller settings before starting the game.
Turn off the Deck’s built-in controls in Steam Input settings, that usually fixes the mapping issues.
Chain Together gets weird with multiple controllers. Had to restart the game after plugging both in to make it work.
