Hey everyone! I’m working on a third-person shooter with horror elements set in a world war-like setting. I’m trying to nail down the trench combat mechanics and could use some advice.
How can I make the trench warfare feel claustrophobic and intense? I want players to feel the dread of peeking over the top and the tension of close-quarters combat in narrow trenches.
Any ideas for unique weapons or gadgets that fit this setting? I’m thinking of things like makeshift trench clubs, flare guns, or maybe even some supernatural twists.
Also, how should I handle movement in the trenches? Should it be slower and more deliberate, or should I keep it fast-paced?
I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences if you’ve worked on similar games. Thanks in advance for any tips!
Maybe add some eerie fog and creepy sounds in the trenches. Slow movement could work well to build tension. Bayonets and gas masks could be cool for that era too.
Trench warfare is perfect for a horror FPS. I’d focus on the sound design to really sell the atmosphere. Distant explosions, creaking wood supports, and muffled screams could keep players on edge. For weapons, how about some jury-rigged stuff like nail bombs or makeshift flamethrowers? Those fit the desperation of trench combat and could add some unique gameplay elements.
Throw in some rats or other vermin scurrying around. Nothing says creepy trench like nasty critters underfoot. Could add to the claustrophobic vibe you’re going for.
Trench warfare is a great setting for horror. I’d go with slower movement to build tension. Maybe add some supernatural elements like ghostly soldiers or weird mutations from chemical weapons. Could be a cool twist on the usual WW1/WW2 games.
Trench warfare sounds intense for a horror FPS. Gas attacks could add a scary element. Imagine having to fumble with your mask while enemies close in. For weapons, maybe some early prototype stuff to keep it fresh.
