The impact of a voiced main character in Open World RPGs

Hey guys, I just wanted to share something that’s really blown my mind lately. You know how in most open world RPGs, your character is usually silent? Well, I’ve been playing this game where the main character actually talks, and wow, what a difference!

I’ve played tons of games like Genshin and others where you’re basically just a silent observer. But now, hearing my character actually speak and interact with NPCs… it’s like the whole world comes to life!

It’s crazy how much more connected I feel to the story and the other characters. The conversations feel real, you know? And the world just seems so much more believable and engaging.

Has anyone else experienced this? What do you think about voiced vs. silent protagonists in RPGs? I’m curious to hear your thoughts!

Voiced protagonists can be hit or miss for me. Sometimes they really bring the character to life and make the world feel more immersive. Other times, the voice just doesn’t match how I imagine my character should sound. It’s a tough balance.

I think it works best when there are dialogue options that actually reflect different personalities. That way the voice can match the choices you’re making. In games where your choices don’t matter much, a silent protagonist lets me fill in the blanks myself.

Voiced characters can be great for immersion. But it’s a double-edged sword. Sometimes the voice doesn’t match how I picture my character. Silent protagonists let you imagine their personality more freely. It really depends on the game and how well it’s implemented.

Voiced protagonists are cool, but it depends on the game. In Mass Effect, hearing Shepard talk made the story more intense. But in Skyrim, I liked making up my own character’s voice. It’s all about how the devs use it, I guess.
