Hey everyone, I’m having trouble with my Split Fiction setup. I downloaded the Fitgirl compressed version and everything was working fine initially. Then I found some online patch and decided to apply it to fix some issues I was having. Now whenever I try to start the game, it keeps showing an error message saying the game needs to be launched through Steam, even though I have Steam running in the background. This is really frustrating because I’ve already put several hours into my playthrough and made decent progress. I really don’t want to go through the hassle of downloading and installing everything again from scratch. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a way to fix this without losing my save data and having to start over completely?
Try verifying your game files through Steam - that usually fixes launch problems. Running as admin might help too.
Back up your save files first, then delete those patch files you added manually
That patch probably messed with your Steam files. It’s a good idea to back up your saves first, which you can find in your Documents or AppData folders. After that, reinstall the base Fitgirl version and skip the patch this time. Once it’s all set up again, just drop your saves back into the correct folder. This kind of error usually means something went wrong with the DRM.
That patch probably broke the Steam connection. Your saves should still be in the game folder or Documents though. Try running the Fitgirl installer again and pick repair instead of doing a full reinstall.
