Hey fellow horror fans! I just finished a really cool indie game called Shipwrecked 64. It was amazing and now I’m craving more spooky stuff. I’m hoping to find some lesser-known psychological horror games that won’t melt my Steam Deck.
I’m not into those cheap jump-scare games that kids buy with their parents’ money. I prefer games that are sneaky with their scares or have a retro vibe. Bonus points if it’s a game-within-a-game concept.
I’m a big fan of cosmic horror too, like Lovecraft or Junji Ito’s work. If you know any games that fit this bill, I’d love to hear about them!
Got any hidden treasures you can recommend? I’m open to mainstream stuff too, but I’m really hoping to discover some indie gems. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is old but gold for psych horror. No weapons, just hide and run. The atmosphere is intense and the story keeps you hooked. It’s not super unknown, but definitely worth playing if you haven’t.
If you’re into cosmic horror, check out The Last Door. It’s a point-and-click adventure with pixel graphics, but man, the atmosphere is killer. The story is pure Lovecraftian goodness, and the sound design will creep you out. It’s not flashy, but it gets under your skin in the best way possible.
Layers of Fear is pretty cool if you haven’t tried it. Not super well-known, but it’s got that psychological horror vibe you’re after. The story messes with your head and the environment changes in weird ways. Definitely more about the atmosphere than jump scares.
