Seeking suggestions for gritty, end-of-world, or combat-themed PC games

Hey everyone! I’m just starting to get into PC gaming and I’m really digging dark, intense games. I’ve played a few titles that I loved, but now I’m hungry for more. I’m talking about games that show a world gone wrong, society falling apart, or all-out warfare.

So far, I’ve had a blast with games like the cat adventure in a robot city, that neon-filled future RPG, the crime sandbox with three playable characters, the underwater survival game, and the massive multiplayer war sim. But I know there’s gotta be more out there!

I’m only looking for stuff I can get on that popular digital game store platform. If you’ve got any cool recommendations that fit these themes, I’d love to hear them! What are your favorite dystopian, apocalyptic, or war games that I should check out next?

Metro series is solid. Another one to check out is Frostpunk. It’s a city-builder but set in a frozen apocalypse. You make tough choices to keep your people alive. Really nails that end-of-world vibe.

The Wasteland series might be right up your alley. Post-apocalyptic setting, tough choices, and dark humor. The latest one, Wasteland 3, looks amazing and has some wild combat. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into that end-of-world vibe.

The Fallout series is perfect for that post-apocalyptic vibe. Explore a nuclear wasteland, fight mutants, and make tough choices. Fallout: New Vegas is my personal favorite.

Sounds like you’re into intense stuff! Have you tried the Metro series? It’s set in post-apocalyptic Russia with mutants and survival elements. Pretty gritty and atmospheric.

Man, if you’re into dark and gritty, you gotta check out This War of Mine. It’s a survival game set during a war, but you play as civilians just trying to stay alive. Really hits hard and makes you think about the real cost of conflict. Not exactly a fun time, but definitely intense and memorable.

Frostpunk is great. For another bleak experience, try STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl. It’s an older game, but the atmosphere is unmatched. Exploring the Zone is tense and eerie.

If you’re into dark and gritty, don’t sleep on The Long Dark. It’s a survival game set in the frigid Canadian wilderness after a global disaster. No zombies or mutants, just you against the brutal cold and wildlife. The atmosphere is incredible, and it really nails that feeling of isolation in a world gone wrong. Definitely worth checking out if you want something intense but different from your typical post-apocalyptic fare.
