Seeking dystopian games with oppressive government themes

Hey everyone,

I’m on the hunt for some video games that have a dark, dystopian vibe. I’m really into games where you have to deal with a controlling government and try to stay out of trouble.

I’ve already played a bunch of the popular titles in this genre, so I’m hoping to find some hidden gems or lesser-known games that fit the bill. You know, the kind where you’re always looking over your shoulder and have to be careful about every move you make.

If anyone has some cool recommendations, I’d love to hear them! I’m open to different game styles as long as they have that oppressive atmosphere I’m craving.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Orwell’s a good one. You play as a surveillance officer, digging into people’s lives. Really captures that paranoid, Big Brother feeling.

Papers, Please is a classic in this genre. You’re a border control officer in a fictional communist state. It’s all about making tough choices and navigating the oppressive system. The atmosphere is super tense and you really feel the weight of the government bearing down on you. It’s simple in design but packs a punch in terms of storytelling and moral dilemmas.

Beholder’s pretty intense. You’re a landlord spying on tenants for the state. Gotta make tough calls about reporting people or helping them. Really nails that constant paranoia feeling.

Inside is a creepy puzzle-platformer with a super oppressive vibe. You’re this kid sneaking through a dark world full of weird experiments and shady government stuff. Pretty unsettling.
