Seeking challenging and frustrating games that test your patience

Hey everyone, I’m on the hunt for some games that really push your limits and test your patience. I’m not talking about those purposely annoying troll games, but more the ones that are genuinely difficult and maybe a bit frustrating.

I’ve played games like Darkest Dungeon and Getting Over It, which were pretty tough but rewarding. Rimworld also comes to mind with its unforgiving nature. I’m looking for more games like these that offer a real challenge and might even make you want to pull your hair out a little.

Does anyone have any recommendations for games that fit this description? I’m open to different genres, as long as they have that element of difficulty and a bit of frustration. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Sounds like you’re after some real controller-smashers. Have you tried Cuphead? That game’s brutal but so satisfying when you finally beat a boss. Sekiro and Nioh are solid picks too if you’re into FromSoftware-style punishment. For strategy fans, XCOM 2 on higher difficulties can be absolutely merciless. Just be prepared for a lot of ‘That’s XCOM, baby!’ moments when your 95% shots miss.

Sounds like you’re into the tough stuff. Ever tried Souls games? Dark Souls or Elden Ring can be rage-inducing but so rewarding when you finally beat that boss. They really test your patience and skill. Just be ready for a lot of ‘You Died’ screens.

I’ll throw Darkest Dungeon 2 into the mix.

Even more brutal than the first. Prepare for epic meltdowns when your party wipes.

Not for the faint of heart, but so rewarding.

Ever tried Celeste? Super challenging platformer.

Tough as nails but fair. Feels great when you nail those pixel-perfect jumps.

Hollow Knight’s another good one. Gorgeous but brutal Metroidvania.

I’ve been playing Hades lately. It’s a roguelike that can get pretty frustrating when you keep dying, but man is it addictive. The gameplay loop keeps you coming back for more even when you fail. Might be worth checking out if you’re into that kind of challenge.
