Seeking book suggestions similar to eerie games and analog horror

Hey everyone! I’m on a reading spree and can’t get enough of creepy stories. I’ve been into spooky video games and analog horror stuff, but now I want to find books with the same vibe.

I’m really into things that are super atmospheric and mess with your head. You know, the kind of stories that give you chills or make you feel uneasy. I’m not big on modern-day settings though.

I’m pretty new to horror books, so I’m not sure where to start. Any ideas for novels that might fit the bill? I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Oh, and if it helps, I’m into things like:

  • Creepy Forest
  • The Haunted TV
  • Shadowy Pursuer
  • Midnight Broadcast
  • Stargazer’s Nightmare

Thanks a bunch for your help!

I’ve heard good things about ‘The Raw Shark Texts’ by Steven Hall. It’s got this weird, surreal vibe that kinda reminds me of those mind-bending games. Not exactly horror, but definitely unsettling in a unique way. Might be worth checking out if you want something different.

Ever tried ‘The Willows’ by Algernon Blackwood? Old-school but nails that creepy forest vibe. Feels like you’re lost in a spooky game world.

If you dig atmospheric horror, check out ‘Annihilation’ by Jeff VanderMeer.

Weird, unsettling, and set in a creepy wilderness. Kinda feels like exploring a glitched-out game world.

Not super old-school, but definitely has that eerie vibe you’re after.

Have you checked out House of Leaves? It’s got that weird, mind-bending vibe that reminds me of some analog horror stuff. The way it’s written really messes with your head. Not exactly like a game, but it definitely gives off an unsettling atmosphere.

Sounds like you’d dig cosmic horror. Try H.P. Lovecraft’s stories - they’re old school but pack a punch with that unsettling, mind-bending vibe. ‘The Color Out of Space’ is a good starting point. It’s got that creepy atmosphere and otherworldly feel that hits similar notes to those games you mentioned. Just be warned, the language is pretty dated.
