Reminder: ONI isn't meant to be a true-to-life physics game

Hey folks! I’ve noticed a lot of posts lately where people seem disappointed that Oxygen Not Included isn’t as realistic as they hoped. But I think we need to remember that this game isn’t trying to be a perfect copy of real life. It’s more like a fun, sci-fi take on some scientific ideas.

Sure, there are tons of things that don’t match up with reality. Like how stuff is based on tiles, or how temperature works differently. And don’t get me started on how dupes never age or have kids! But that’s all part of the game’s charm, right?

I think once we stop expecting everything to be super accurate, we can really enjoy ONI for what it is – a cool, quirky game that’s inspired by science but does its own thing. What do you all think? Do you have any favorite ‘unrealistic’ parts of the game that you actually love?

Totally agree! The game’s wacky physics are part of the fun.

I love how dupes can breathe underwater with just a mask. So unrealistic, but makes for some hilarious moments.

The temperature mechanics are hilarious!

Dupes can walk through boiling oil but freeze in slightly chilly water.

It’s wacky but makes for some crazy base designs.

I dig the unrealistic stuff in ONI. Like how you can just slap down machines anywhere and they work. No need for complex wiring or plumbing.

It’s great for experimenting with wild designs without getting bogged down in details. Plus, the way gases and liquids behave is pretty bonkers but makes for some cool gameplay moments.

Yeah, ONI’s physics are pretty out there.

Love how you can build crazy contraptions that wouldn’t work IRL. The geysers and vents spewing random stuff are one of my favorite unrealistic bits.

Makes exploring way more fun than just digging through boring rocks.

I’m with you on this. ONI’s quirky take on physics is what makes it unique. The way germs spread is pretty wild but adds a fun challenge. And let’s not forget the crazy critter mechanics! It’s all part of the game’s charm.
