Hey everyone, I’m in a tough spot and could use some help. I’ve been working on this dark, story-heavy game for months now. It’s eating up all my time and energy. My partner is getting really frustrated with how obsessed I’ve become.
I’m thinking maybe I should scrap the first preview build to buy myself some breathing room. But I’m not sure how to go about it without looking unprofessional.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How did you handle it? I’m worried about disappointing my small but loyal following, but I also don’t want to lose my relationship over this game.
Any tips on how to gracefully step back from a project for a bit? Or ways to balance game development with a personal life? I’m really stuck here. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Dude, game dev burnout is real. I’ve seen it happen to friends. Don’t trash your work though. Just scale back and set some limits. Maybe work on it only on weekends or for a couple hours each night. That way you keep the project going but still have time for your partner and other stuff. It’s all about finding that balance.
Been there. Game dev can take over your life. Maybe scale back to part-time work on it? Set boundaries, like no coding after 7pm. Keeps the project alive without tanking your relationship.
Sounds like a tough spot. Maybe try shifting gears to a lighter game project for a bit? Could help refresh your creativity and give you more free time. Doesn’t mean scrapping the dystopian one forever, just taking a break to recharge.
