Hey everyone! I’m trying to get the Quarantine Zone demo working on my Mac but running into some problems. When I check Steam, it shows the game is only supported on Windows systems. My MacBook should be able to handle it performance-wise, but the platform restriction is blocking me. Has anyone found a solution to make Windows-only Steam games work on macOS? I’m really excited to try this demo and would appreciate any tips or methods you’ve used successfully.
I’ve had decent luck with Porting Kit for getting Windows games running on Mac. It’s basically a wrapper around Wine but comes with pre-made scripts for tons of games. No clue if they have Quarantine Zone specifically but worth checking their database.
That said, if you’re just wanting to try the demo, you might be better off seeing if a friend with a Windows machine can stream it to you through Steam Remote Play. Quick and dirty solution without all the compatibility headaches.
Steam Deck could be a good option if you have one. Proton runs a lot of Windows games pretty well, so you could try the demo there without issues.
I’d probably just wait for a Mac version if the dev is planning one. Running Windows stuff on Mac can be hit or miss and sometimes more trouble than it’s worth for a demo.
Whisky is worth checking out too, it’s free and handles some Steam games pretty well
You can try Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop to run Windows games on your Mac.
CrossOver is another option that might work better than running a full Windows VM. It’s basically Wine but with a nicer interface and better game compatibility. Sometimes works great for indie games like this demo, sometimes it’s a mess. Worth trying the free trial first.
GeForce Now could be easier if you just want to test the demo without installing anything. Assuming Quarantine Zone is available on there.
