Looking for souls-like games that have deliberate, tactical combat similar to original Dark Souls

I recently discovered a game called Mortal Shell, and it perfectly fits my preference for slower, more thoughtful combat. While I appreciate the more recent Soulsborne games, I find their pacing to be faster and less strategic. The original Dark Souls required careful planning and precise timing for each action. I’m curious if there are other indie or lesser-known souls-like titles that emphasize that slower and more methodical approach to combat. I’m looking for games that encourage analyzing enemy movements and practicing patience instead of rushing into battles. Has anyone found any games that evoke this unique experience?

Try The Surge if you want that slow methodical feel with a sci-fi twist

Salt and Sanctuary nails that deliberate combat feel really well

Lords of the Fallen nails exactly what you’re looking for. Every swing has weight behind it and you can’t just button mash your way through fights. You’ve got to actually think about where you’re standing and when to attack. Nioh works too if you ignore all the flashy combo stuff and play defensively instead. The ki pulse system punishes button mashers and rewards good timing.

Blasphemous has that same methodical feel - you’ve got to study attack patterns and time your moves just right. Combat’s weighty and will punish you hard if you rush in.
