Looking for brief narrative-driven games that can be finished in under 4 hours

I’m searching for games with compelling stories that don’t require a huge time commitment. Can you recommend some titles that can be completed in 4 hours or less?

When suggesting games, please include:

  • Approximate completion time
  • Brief description of the gameplay or theme (spoiler-free)

For example, Journey and ABZU are excellent choices:

  • Both feature atmospheric exploration with minimal text or dialogue
  • Each takes roughly 2-3 hours to finish
  • They focus on emotional storytelling through visuals and music rather than traditional narrative

Firewatch is great for this - around 4 hours of dialogue-driven mystery in the Wyoming wilderness. You play as a fire lookout who only communicates with his supervisor via radio, and things get weird from there. Also check out Gone Home, takes about 2-3 hours. You’re exploring an empty family house trying to figure out what happened while you were away. Really atmospheric environmental storytelling.

Stanley Parable is really good for this kind of thing. Takes about 2-3 hours and it’s all about choices and narrative with some pretty funny writing.

What Remains of Edith Finch is perfect for this - about 2 hours of really unique storytelling
