I’m worried about the direction indie horror games are taking. It feels like the genre is stuck in a loop of copying popular titles. First, it was all about FNaF clones. Now, with Security Breach, Poppy Playtime, and Garten of BanBan, we’re seeing a new trend that’s not much better.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy FNaF. But it’s frustrating to see so many games following the same formula. There are still some unique games out there, like Fears to Fathom and Chilla’s Art stuff. But they seem to be the exception, not the rule.
I’m curious what others think. Are indie horror games becoming too predictable? Is there hope for more original ideas in the future? Or am I just being too negative about the whole thing?
I get where you’re coming from. The indie horror scene can feel a bit samey at times. But I think there’s still plenty of creativity out there if you dig a bit deeper.
Sure, the big hits like FNaF spawn a ton of copycats. That’s just how the industry works. But for every cookie-cutter game, there’s also stuff like Inscryption or Mundaun pushing boundaries.
Maybe we’re just seeing more of everything these days, good and bad. The gems are still there, they’re just harder to spot in the crowd.
I think indie horror still has some life in it. Sure, there’s a lot of copycats, but that’s true for any genre that gets popular. Games like Darkwood and Soma show there’s still room for fresh ideas. We just gotta look past the trending stuff sometimes.
I feel you on the indie horror scene. It’s hit or miss lately. But man, have you tried Visage? That game creeped me out big time. Totally different vibe from the usual jump scare stuff. There’s still some cool ideas out there if you look around.
