Is Stephen King's dystopian novel The Running Man worth reading?

I recently picked up The Running Man by Stephen King. I was hesitant at first because I saw the movie years ago and didn’t like it. But I heard the book is completely different and much better.

I’m glad I gave it a chance! The story follows a man who joins a deadly game show where contestants are hunted for entertainment. It’s a chilling look at a future where people’s lives are cheap thrills for the masses.

The main character is clever and manages to stay alive longer than anyone before. He even starts to win over the public, which doesn’t sit well with those in power.

Has anyone else read this book? What did you think of the dystopian world King created? I’m curious to hear other opinions before I start The Long Walk, which I’ve heard is similar.

The Running Man is a classic! King’s take on dystopian game shows is super intense. I couldn’t put it down. The movie’s totally different, so don’t let that stop you. If you’re into that kinda thing, Battle Royale might be up your alley too.

The Running Man is seriously underrated. I read it years ago and it still sticks with me. The whole concept is super disturbing but in a way that feels all too plausible. King really nails the dystopian atmosphere and social commentary. Definitely way different and better than the cheesy movie version. If you dig it, check out some of his other early stuff like The Long Walk too.

I loved The Running Man too! The dystopian game show idea is super creepy.

King really knows how to build tension.

Have you tried his other early works like The Dead Zone?

The Running Man is pretty intense. I’m not usually into dystopian stuff, but King makes it work. The game show premise is wild. Reminds me a bit of some battle royale games, but way darker. Might check out The Long Walk next.

Loved The Running Man! Way better than the movie. King really nails the dystopian vibe. The game show concept is terrifying and feels weirdly possible. If you liked it, definitely check out The Long Walk. Another intense survival story.
