I just heard about this crazy situation with an indie horror game dev. Apparently, some scammers on the eShop completely ripped off their game! Can you believe it?
The developer is pretty upset, saying stuff like “They stole the whole game!” I mean, who wouldn’t be mad? It’s not just a few ideas or concepts - we’re talking about a blatant copy of their hard work.
Has anyone else heard about this? What do you think the dev should do? It’s tough for small creators to fight back against this kind of thing.
I’m curious to hear your thoughts on how indie devs can protect themselves from copycats and scammers. Any ideas?
Man, that’s rough. Copycats are a real problem for indie devs these days. I’ve seen it happen to a few games I follow. It’s tough because the eShop doesn’t always act fast enough. The dev should definitely report it, but they might also want to rally their fans on social media. Getting some noise out there can sometimes speed things up. As for protection, watermarks and unique art styles can help, but it’s an uphill battle against determined scammers.
Ugh, that’s such a bummer for the indie dev. Scammers are getting way too bold these days. I’ve seen similar stuff happen on mobile app stores too. Maybe game devs need to start adding some kind of hidden watermark or identifier in their code to prove ownership? It’s a mess out there for small creators.
That’s messed up. Seen it happen to a few smaller games lately. Nintendo needs to step up their game on policing the eShop. Maybe the dev could try reaching out to gaming news sites? Getting some coverage might pressure Nintendo to act faster. Sucks that indie devs have to deal with this crap on top of everything else.
