Indie Horror Film's Distributor Takes Legal Action Against Marketing Partner

Hey everyone,

I just read about some drama in the indie film world. The distributor of ‘Strange Darling’ is suing their marketing partner, Spellbinder. They’re saying the movie could’ve made way more money if Spellbinder did their job right.

Apparently, the distributor thinks they lost out on about $10 million at the box office. That’s a big deal for an indie horror flick!

What do you guys think? Is it fair to blame the marketing team for a movie not doing as well as expected? Or could there be other reasons why it didn’t hit those numbers?

I’m curious to hear your thoughts on this. Have you seen ‘Strange Darling’? Was the marketing for it good or not so great?

Let’s chat about it!

Marketing’s important, but it’s not everything.

Sometimes a movie just doesn’t click with audiences.

Wonder if there were other factors at play here.

Huh, suing over marketing? Sounds like a horror story itself.

Maybe the movie just wasn’t that good. Or bad timing with other releases. Marketing can only do so much.

This lawsuit seems pretty extreme. Marketing’s important, but there are so many factors that determine a movie’s success. Budget, release timing, competition, critical reception - it all plays a part. Without seeing the film or knowing more details, it’s hard to say if the marketing was really to blame here. Indie horror’s a tough market to crack regardless.

Indie horror films are tricky to market. Sometimes word of mouth is more effective than any marketing campaign. I’ve seen plenty of low-budget horrors blow up just from social media buzz. Might be other issues at play here beyond just the marketing.

Interesting situation. Marketing can help, but it’s not a guarantee. Some indie horror flicks just don’t catch on, no matter how they’re promoted. Could be the story, acting, or even just bad timing. Tough to pin it all on marketing.
