I’ve been playing a lot of different horror games lately and I keep coming back to the indie ones. They just feel so much more creative and scary than the big budget stuff. The developers seem willing to take risks and try weird things that bigger studios won’t touch. I’m talking about games that might not be pure horror but have those creepy elements that get under your skin. What do you think? Are indie horror games really doing something special right now or am I just imagining it? I’d love to hear what games have impressed you recently.
Indies definitely hit different. Been obsessed with OMORI lately - not pure horror but those psychological moments are genuinely unsettling.
Pizza Tower isn’t even horror but that final chase sequence stressed me out more than most AAA scary games.
World of Horror absolutely nails that retro vibe and it’s genuinely creepy as hell. The pixel art somehow makes the body horror way more disturbing than it has any right to be.
Yeah indie devs can get way more experimental with their scares. Dredge mixing fishing with cosmic horror was such a weird combo that somehow worked perfectly.
Totally agree with you. Indie games have a unique vibe that larger studios often miss. Just tried Inscryption and it was a crazy ride, definitely not something AAA would dare to make. Iron Lung also stands out for its atmosphere and tension. Big studios tend to play it safe which leads to forgettable experiences, while indies are where the real innovation and genuine fear come from.
