Human Fall Flat startup failure with license error message

I’m having trouble getting Human Fall Flat to start properly on my Linux setup. Every time I click the play button through Steam, the game tries to launch in fullscreen mode but all I see is a black screen. After waiting for about 10-15 seconds, I get an error message saying something like “error occurred while launching this game: no licenses downloaded from onlinefix”.

I’m running CachyOS with Hyprland as my desktop environment. My hardware specs are pretty decent - i5-12600KF processor and RTX 3060 graphics card. I’ve been using Proton Experimental to run the game through Steam.

Has anyone else encountered this licensing error before? I’m not sure if this is a Proton compatibility issue or something related to my specific distribution. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be really helpful.

Verifying the game files in Steam usually helps fix those license errors. If that doesn’t work, you might try checking if your Proton settings need tweaking or switching to a different compatibility version.

That onlinefix error screams sketchy download source. If you bought it legit on Steam, nuke the install completely and redownload. Leftover pirated files mess with legit copies all the time. Try Proton 8.0 or GE-Proton instead of Experimental - they’re way more stable.

Try launching with -windowed in launch options first, then switch to fullscreen once it’s running properly.
