How can I build courage to play scary games like Resident Evil 7?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to get into horror games, but I’m having a tough time with Resident Evil 7. The jump scares and creepy atmosphere are really getting to me. I can’t seem to make much progress because I’m always on edge.

Does anyone have advice on how to handle the fear factor in these games? I really want to enjoy them, but right now I’m too scared to continue. Maybe there are some tricks to make it less intense?

I’d appreciate any tips from experienced horror game players. How do you guys deal with the scares and keep playing? Thanks in advance for your help!

Play with headphones off at first. It dials down the tension a lot. Try short gaming sessions too. Helps you ease into the scares gradually.

I feel ya on RE7. It’s pretty intense. Something that helped me was turning down the volume a bit. Takes away some of the impact from those sudden noises and music stings. Still scary, but not quite as jump-out-of-your-seat terrifying.

I get it, horror games can be intense. For RE7, try playing during the day with the lights on. Maybe have a podcast or music on in the background too. That helps take the edge off for me.

If it’s still too much, watching playthroughs first can prep you for the scares. Or team up with a friend and take turns playing. Sharing the experience makes it less scary and more fun.

RE7 is pretty intense. I found playing in short bursts helped me get through it. Like 30 minutes at a time. Gives you a chance to take breaks and calm down between sessions. Might make it easier to push through the scary parts.

Start with easier horror games first. Work your way up to RE7.

That way you build tolerance to scares over time.

Outlast or Amnesia could be good starting points.
