Holy cow, you all were serious about how grim this game actually is

Man, I should have listened when everyone warned me about the tone of this game

So I finally picked up this title after seeing all the discussions here about how heavy and depressing it gets. I thought people were just being dramatic or overly sensitive about it. Boy was I wrong!

I’m only a few hours in and already feeling pretty overwhelmed by some of the themes and scenarios. The atmosphere is incredibly well done but definitely hits harder than I expected. Now I totally get why so many posts here mention needing breaks while playing.

Did anyone else underestimate just how intense this game would be? How do you guys handle the darker moments without getting too affected by them? I want to keep playing because the story seems amazing, but I might need some strategies for dealing with the heavy content.

Thanks for any advice or just sharing your own experiences with getting through the tough parts.

Playing in short sessions helped me a lot. Some parts are genuinely rough to get through.

Yeah, I went in thinking I could handle whatever it threw at me and ended up having to put the controller down more than once. The way it builds up that dread is no joke. I found switching to something lighter afterwards really helped - like having a palate cleanser game ready to go when things got too heavy.

Totally get that! It has a way of creeping up on you when you least expect it. I made the same switch to daytime gameplay because the heaviness at night was just overwhelming.
