I’m wondering if anyone else thinks the Backrooms idea isn’t as spooky anymore. It seems like the focus has shifted from the creepy emptiness to adding lots of levels, monsters, and detailed maps.
At first, the scary part was just being alone in this weird, endless place. You didn’t know what was around the corner or why you were there. That was enough to freak you out.
But now it feels like every little thing needs a story. There are monsters to run from and secrets to uncover. It’s starting to feel more like a regular game than a strange, unsettling concept.
I miss when the Backrooms was just about being lost in a place that shouldn’t exist. No need for boss fights or complex lore. Just you and endless, slightly off-kilter rooms.
Does anyone else think we’ve lost what made the Backrooms special in the first place? Or am I just being nostalgic for the original idea?
I feel you on that. The Backrooms used to give me chills just thinking about it. Now it’s kinda turned into this whole universe thing. Not bad, just different. Kinda miss that old creepy vibe sometimes though.
Yeah, I’ve noticed that too. The original Backrooms had this eerie empty vibe that really got under your skin. Now it’s more like a full-on game world. Still cool, but definitely lost some of that creepy mystery along the way.
I get what you’re saying. The original Backrooms idea was scary because of how simple it was. Just you, trapped in this weird liminal space forever. Adding all these monsters and levels kinda turns it into a generic creepypasta thing.
That said, I think some of the newer stuff is still pretty cool. It’s just a different kind of scary now. More like a survival horror game than a psychological horror concept. Both can be fun in their own way.
