I just saw the news that Phasmophobia hit 25 million sales and I’m honestly shocked by how successful this indie horror game became. When it first came out, it seemed like just another small horror game but it completely blew up on streaming platforms. The co-op ghost hunting gameplay really caught on with people. I remember watching streamers play it and getting scared just from watching. Has anyone else been following this game’s success story? It’s pretty incredible how an indie developer managed to create something that outsold many AAA titles. The paranormal investigation mechanics and the voice recognition features were really innovative for an independent studio. What do you think made this particular horror game stand out so much compared to other indie titles in the same genre?
Totally agree! The co-op aspect really amps up the tension. It’s a blast when everyone reacts at once to the ghostly stuff. The voice recognition feature adds so much immersion, it’s like the game knows you’re there.
Still can’t believe something so simple worked that well. You don’t need fancy graphics to scare the hell out of people.
Those streaming moments were pure gold. Nothing beats watching a whole squad panic and run when the ghost starts hunting. The proximity chat made it even funnier when people were whispering and freaking out.
The timing was perfect too. Came out right when everyone was stuck at home looking for games to play with friends online.
What hooked me was how accessible it was. Most horror games trap you alone with your fear, but Phasmophobia lets you drag friends into the terror with you. At $14, it’s cheap enough for everyone to grab. After dozens of hours, it still scares the hell out of me - they absolutely nailed the atmosphere.
