Getting virus alert when installing R.E.P.O game - is this normal?

Hey everyone, I need some help here. I was trying to get R.E.P.O and downloaded it from a couple of sources that were listed in the main thread. Both times Windows Defender popped up with a serious threat warning. This has me worried because I don’t want to mess up my computer. Has anyone else run into this issue? I’m wondering if this is just one of those false alarms that antivirus software sometimes gives, or if there’s actually something dangerous in the files. Should I be concerned about this warning or is it safe to ignore? I followed the links from the recommended list so I thought it would be okay. Any advice would be really helpful since I’m not sure what to do next.

Yeah, this happens a lot with indie games, especially if they aren’t from official stores. Compressed files usually trigger false alarms. You should run it through VirusTotal; if most scanners approve it, then you’re probably fine. Just try to stick to trusted sources when you can.

Yeah, false alarms are common with indie games. It’s a good idea to scan it with different antivirus tools just to be safe.

Yeah, this happens all the time with games. It’s usually just how the files are packed that makes antivirus go crazy. R.E.P.O triggers these warnings constantly. If you’re worried, just set a restore point before installing so you can roll back if something breaks.

Yeah, happens all the time with game cracks and patches. Antivirus programs hate anything that messes with .exe files and they’ll flag it as suspicious every time.

Windows Defender hates unsigned game files. If you grabbed it from the main thread sources, you’re probably good - just turn off real-time protection while installing.
