Hey everyone, I’m trying to run the Quarantine Zone: The Last Check demo on my Mac using virtualization software but running into some issues. With Parallels, I get this really annoying screen flickering that I can’t figure out how to stop. I’ve tried adjusting the display settings but nothing seems to work. When I use CrossOver, the demo won’t even start because of a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime error. I’ve already tried creating separate bottles for the game and installing it through Steam but still get the same error message. Has anyone managed to get this demo working properly on either platform? I’m getting frustrated and would really appreciate any suggestions or workarounds that might help. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Trying to run indie horror demos on virtualization can be really frustrating. The flickering you’re seeing in Parallels could be due to the GPU settings. Maybe try disabling hardware acceleration in your VM settings to see if that helps. Honestly, I just waited for games to get native Mac support or found something else to play because dealing with these issues often wasn’t worth the hassle.
CrossOver can be tricky with newer games. Try to install the latest Visual C++ redistributables directly in your bottle instead of relying on the built-in ones. I found success manually downloading the 2019 redistributable from Microsoft and installing it through the bottle’s Run Command option. If you have it, VMware Fusion is worth a shot too; it often performs better than Parallels for some games.
I had similar issues with that demo. Try running it in compatibility mode for Windows 7 if you’re using Parallels, that fixed the flickering for me.
Boot Camp might be your best bet for this one honestly
The demo ran fine for me on UTM with a Windows 11 VM. Might be worth trying if the other solutions don’t work out.
