Fire magic mechanics across all Dark Souls titles

Hey everyone, I’ve been diving into the Dark Souls series, and I’m eager to learn more about how pyromancy operates in each installment. There are a total of three main games along with some DLC, but I’m lost on how fire spells vary across them.

It appears that some games require specific stats for effective pyromancy, while others seem to operate differently. I’m also curious about how the upgrade systems for pyromancy flames work and if the spell catalysts differ among the titles.

Could someone outline the key differences in fire magic mechanics for Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3? I’m trying to create a pyromancer build and need guidance on which game would be the best starting point for this type of character.

DS3 pyro is actually really strong once you get both INT and FTH to 40/40

I’d recommend starting with Dark Souls 1 for pyromancy since flame upgrades are straightforward and you won’t need to invest heavily in stats at the beginning. This lets you prioritize health and stamina. Once you boost your flame, spells pack a punch. Dark Souls 2 has some strange mechanics with adaptability and soul memory that can throw you off. Dark Souls 3 also complicates things with its intelligence and faith scaling, so it’s a bit trickier for newcomers.

DS2 pyromancy’s weird - it scales with both INT and FTH from the start. Plus the flame upgrade system is way more confusing than the other games.

DS1 pyromancy is broken in the best way. Grab the flame early - it doesn’t need any stat investment initially, just pump upgrades into it. You’ll melt everything without worrying about INT or FTH. Perfect for new players who want to delete bosses fast.
