Physical PS5 copies of DOOM The Dark Ages need internet for complete download
Some gamers have gotten their hands on the boxed PS5 version of DOOM The Dark Ages early, but there’s a big problem. The physical disc doesn’t actually contain the full game.
People who bought the disc version are finding out they can’t play without an internet connection. The game box says “Internet Required” but many buyers didn’t realize what this really means.
It turns out the PS5 disc only has basic files that start a download process. Players need to download the entire game from the internet, which is more than 80 GB. This is pretty disappointing for people who wanted to own a physical copy.
Bethesda hasn’t made any official comments about this yet. Many PS5 owners are upset because they expected to be able to play their physical game without needing to download anything.
Game reviews are supposed to come out later today around 4 PM, so we’ll see what people think about the actual gameplay.
This is exactly why I hate modern gaming sometimes. What’s the point of buying physical if you still need to download the whole thing? I miss when you could just install from the disc and be done with it. At least tell people clearly on the box that it’s basically just a fancy download key.
This is becoming way too common now. I’ve got terrible internet where I live so downloading 80GB would take forever. Really sucks for people in rural areas or anyone with data caps. At least put most of the game on the disc so we’re only downloading patches or something.
