Just wanted to get everyone’s thoughts on this. I was playing through Split Fiction and noticed the side mission called ‘falling star’ felt really similar to some moments in Inside. I know Split Fiction is way more lighthearted and comedic compared to Inside’s dark atmosphere, but Hazelight always puts in tons of references to other games. The audio design in that particular section reminded me so much of Inside’s most iconic sequences. At first I thought they might be referencing the collective consciousness theme since Hazelight usually goes for the more meme-worthy elements from popular titles. But maybe this is more of a respectful tribute like they played Inside and thought ‘wow that was amazing, we should create something similar.’ Could be reading too much into it though. What’s your take on this?
Split Fiction loves doing stuff like this so it’s probably intentional
Yeah, I noticed that too! The sound design totally reminded me of Inside’s underwater parts. Hazelight’s great at sneaking in those references without being heavy-handed about it. Intentional or not, both games capture that feeling of being tiny in something way bigger than you.
Totally get that. The camera work feels really similar to what Playdead does. It’s interesting how they play with those vibes even while keeping things fun.
Same here. Love how they pull off those moments without losing the fun factor.
Definitely! The vibe in that part does remind me of Inside a lot. It’s cool how they blend different styles while keeping things lighthearted.
