Disturbing backstory elements before the nuclear apocalypse happened

As I’ve been playing this game, I can’t help but notice some really heavy and dark stories that happen before the bombs drop. The backstory before the nuclear event has some really unsettling moments that create a grim atmosphere throughout the game. When you examine these events closely, it’s clear that the developers paid a lot of attention to detail in crafting this dark tone, even before everything changed. Has anyone else noticed these darker narrative threads? How do you feel about how these pre-apocalyptic stories enhance the overall experience? I’m intrigued to hear if other players found these backstory events as disturbing as I did.

The pre-war stuff is honestly what makes Fallout so effective for me. Sure, the post-apocalyptic wasteland is brutal, but knowing that society was already rotting from the inside before the bombs even fell? That’s what really gets under my skin. The corporate experiments, the resource wars, how normalized violence had become. It makes you realize the nuclear war wasn’t really the beginning of the horror, just the final act.

What really messes with me is how the whole ‘American Dream’ thing was basically a facade while companies like RobCo and Vault-Tec were doing horrific stuff behind closed doors. The way pre-war America is presented as this perfect 1950s society but then you dig deeper and find out about the resource shortages, the protests being violently suppressed, and all the shady government programs. It’s like the bombs just exposed what was already there underneath all that cheerful propaganda.

The medical experiments in those abandoned facilities always creep me out more than any mutant could

Listening to those audio logs where soldiers mention quelling food riots really hit hard. The casual way they talk about shooting civilians over bread lines feels more unsettling than anything I’ve faced in the wasteland.

Those corporate logs you find scattered around really hit different when you piece together what was happening. The casual way they talk about human experimentation is chilling.

Yeah the vault experiments are probably the darkest part honestly
