I’ve played through the Dark Souls series several times and while I found enjoyment in each game for various reasons, the original Dark Souls holds a special significance for me. The way everything is interconnected in the world design feels exceptional.
The atmosphere in Dark Souls 1 really evoked that sense of mystery and adventure that drew me into the series initially. While I recognize the strengths of Dark Souls 2 and 3, nothing quite compares to that initial experience.
I’m interested in hearing what other gamers feel about this. Which game from the Dark Souls trilogy is your favorite? What made that specific game stand out to you compared to the others? I would love to get different viewpoints on what makes each game special and memorable.
Dark Souls 1 really does have that unique feel. The thrill of spotting places you want to explore later adds to the adventure. It’s just a memorable experience.
I’ll be the weirdo here - DS2 is actually my favorite. Sure, the world design isn’t as tight as DS1, but it’s got so much personality. Power stancing, crazy build variety, and unforgettable spots like Majula and Dragon Aerie. The DLCs are amazing. Yeah it’s janky, but that jank has charm.
Dark Souls 3 really hit home for me. The combat feels so much smoother and more refined compared to the awkwardness of 2. Plus, Gael and Midir are some of my all-time favorite bosses.
Dark Souls 3 is my choice. I love the way it plays compared to the first one. The combat feels sharp, and the bosses are amazing. Plus, the areas are some of the best in the series. Irithyll is just hauntingly beautiful. Those DLCs? Absolutely worth it too.
