Creating the ultimate life simulation game: Which title's gameplay mechanics should we incorporate?

Hey fellow gamers! We’re getting close to finishing our dream life sim project. The Sims 1 already won for best sound design. Now we need to decide on the gameplay mechanics.

What game do you think had the most engaging or innovative gameplay that we could use as inspiration? Maybe something from Stardew Valley’s farming and relationship system? Or the deep character customization from Black Desert Online?

Drop a comment with your top pick and explain why you think it would work well in our perfect life simulator. Don’t forget to mention only one game as your main choice!

I’ll collect all the votes for about a day before moving on to the next category. Can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

Animal Crossing’s day/night cycle and seasonal changes could work great in a life sim. The way it ties in with real-world time makes everything feel more alive. Plus the gradual town development as you play is super satisfying.

Stardew Valley’s relationship system would be awesome.

The way friendships grow through gifts and conversations feels natural.

Plus the seasonal events add a fun rhythm to daily life.

Crusader Kings 3 has some awesome mechanics for a life sim. The way characters develop traits and relationships over time is super in-depth. You could totally use that for more realistic family dynamics and personal growth in a modern setting.

GTA V’s open world and daily activities could be cool.

Going to work, hanging with friends, and exploring the city.

It’d make the sim feel alive and give players lots to do.

For me, Rimworld’s gameplay mechanics would be perfect for a life sim. The depth of character interactions and random events creates really engaging stories. Plus the way different skills develop over time feels natural. I love how characters form relationships and rivalries based on their personalities and experiences. It’d be cool to see that level of depth and emergence in a more everyday setting.
