Could the return of beloved characters in Resident Evil Requiem lessen the horror aspect?

I’ve been pondering about Resident Evil Requiem and a question has come to mind. What if they bring back some of the iconic characters we all love from earlier games? I’m referring to heroes like Leon, Jill, Chris, and possibly others who have been part of the franchise.

My worry is that having these seasoned characters might weaken the survival horror vibe that makes these titles special. When players control characters who have already faced so many zombies and monstrous threats, does that reduce the sense of fear and danger? I believe that a key part of survival horror is the feeling of being vulnerable and scared.

If experienced characters are involved who know how to deal with these dangers, will players still feel that genuine thrill? Or will the game shift towards more of a fast-paced action experience where everything feels predictable? I’m eager to hear what fellow fans think about balancing fan favorites with the need for horror.

It could really go either way. Leon and Chris have seen a lot, but look at Ethan in RE7; he shows that fresh eyes can amp up the fear factor. Even experienced characters can work if you throw them into a completely new and confusing situation, just like the player.

RE4 remake proved that even seasoned characters get scared when they face new horrors.

It’s more about the setting and atmosphere than Leon himself. Stick him in a creepy enough place with limited resources and it’ll still work.

Totally! It all depends on how the story unfolds. Experienced characters can definitely face new, unexpected dangers.

Veteran characters can definitely work with solid writing. Even Jill could feel helpless against the right threat.
