I’ve noticed a surge in horror games featuring child protagonists or childlike settings lately. While I respect creators like Cory Kenshin who play these, I’m starting to feel fatigued by the trend.
Does anyone else think this sub-genre is getting overdone? I’m curious about your thoughts on:
Why are developers leaning so heavily into this style?
Are there any standout titles that break the mold?
What fresh approaches could revitalize the horror game scene?
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good scare. But I’m wondering if we’re reaching a saturation point with these types of games. What do you think? Are they still exciting, or are you also feeling the fatigue?
I get the fatigue with kid horror games. They’re everywhere now. Personally, I’m more into stuff like Resident Evil Village lately. It’s got a good mix of classic horror and new ideas. Maybe we’ll see more games shaking things up soon.
I’m kinda on the fence about this. Kid horror games can be super creepy when done right, but yeah, there’s a lot of 'em now. Maybe developers are trying to tap into our childhood fears or something.
I think we need some fresh ideas in horror. Not just kids, but new ways to scare us. VR horror could be interesting if done well. Or games that mess with your mind in unexpected ways.
I’m still into these games. They tap into that primal fear from childhood. But yeah, we could use some variety. Maybe horror games set in unexpected places or with unusual protagonists?
I get what you mean about kid horror games. They can be creepy, but yeah, it’s getting a bit much. I still dig stuff like Little Nightmares though. Maybe we’ll see some new ideas soon that mix things up a bit.
