Any genuinely frightening horror games you'd recommend?

I’m on the hunt for horror games that truly scare me while still being fun to play. I’ve tried many of the popular titles, but they either fall short in terms of enjoyment while being too scary, or they’re just not scary enough despite having decent gameplay.

As for classic horror games, their old-school designs are a turn-off for me. I can’t seem to find them scary because of their simplistic graphics and Roblox-like style.

What really frightens me are games featuring detailed 3D monsters and creepy designs. I recall a previously banned game called ‘My Eyes Deceive’ that was pretty terrifying and is still available on Steam.

Can anyone suggest similar games that manage to balance real horror with enjoyable gameplay?

MADiSON really got under my skin with its possession mechanics and creepy polaroid camera gimmick. The monsters are genuinely unsettling.

Phasmophobia gets me every time with its ghost encounters

Dead Space remake absolutely nails those detailed monster designs. The necromorphs look disgusting and the atmosphere is incredible.

Try The Dark Pictures Anthology games - Man of Medan and The Quarry both have genuinely creepy moments and solid graphics. The Medium’s also worth checking out if you haven’t played it. The dual reality mechanics create really unsettling scenarios, and the monster designs are pure nightmare fuel.
